Clinton US Secretary of State Greetings We are writing this letter to you to express our deep shock and sorrow with the ruthless attacks carried out by the Jordanian Gendarmerie on peaceful protesters calling for reform on Friday 24th in which two protesters were brutally murdered Furthermore, we are very distributed that the government-monitored and directed Jordanian media have been promoting that the protesters were Jordanian-Palestinians -- which you might realize by now is not true-- such deliberate Incitement of bias and hostility against the oppressed Palestinian majority is very alarming as here have been sweeping calls on the Internet, and printed media, and even on one radio station, for expelling the Palestinians from their homeland in Jordan, all evolving into a sweeping online call for inflicting harm on Palestinians with many calling for absolute ethnic cleansing for them. For example, on Facebook, many groups were formed recently calling for gathering militias to “crack down on Palestinians”, some called for “drinking their blood for the King”. Such threats of hostility is absolutely incited by the government as its media affiliates have been claiming the protesters were Palestinian, all comes at a difficult time when King Abdullah’s regime has already withdrawn Jordanian citizenships from thousands of its citizens of Palestinian heritage Such dangerous, alarming, and shameful approach by King Abdullah’s regime is an act of ethnic discrimination and hostility that puts the entire Palestinian majority in Jordan at risk and destabilizes the peace and security of the entire region and deliberately jeopardizes the security of the Middle East’s only democracy; Israel The United State government is Jordan’s top aid provider and military supporter, with US aid money contributing directly into the Jordanian budget of which a large part is used to cover the costs and salaries of the Jordanian gendarmerie and other security bodies, as well as direct US military aid. Therefore, the US has a commitment to secure that King Abdullah‘s regime stop inciting hostility against the Palestinian majority and to stop abusing their basic human rights This is not the first incident in which the Jordanian gendarmerie targets Palestinians, as was the case on 16 December 2010, the Jordanian gendarmerie locked thousands of Palestinian fans of al-Wihdat soccer club in a stadium after a game and mercilessly attacked them leaving hundreds wounded, where eyewitnesses, including a former parliament member of a Palestinian origin, reported that the gendarmerie attacked the fans without being provoked at all. This incident took place after a US Embassy Amman leaked cable was reported in the media to have addressed the issue of ethnic discrimination against Palestinian soccer fans by the Jordanians We call on the American government to undertake its moral and legal duty of safeguarding the venerable and armless Palestinian majority of Jordan and the heavily armed Jordanian Bedouins Needless to say, the US Department of State has produced several reports over many years noting the deteriorating human rights affairs in Jordan, and discrimination against Jordanian-Palestinians We call on the government of the United States to stop providing financial and military aid to King Abdullah’s regime until the safety of the Palestinian majority of Jordan is secured and systematic discrimination against them seizes American taxpayers’ money should not be used by the King’s regime to obstruct the peace process and compromise regional security We, as member of a Jordanian party, find ourselves obligated to fight through legal and peaceful means, within the US Congress, the US Government, and the US law to end the suffering of our people and to stop a civil war in the making by the King’s regime and his security agencies that run the country Sincerely Mudar Zahran Omar Philip Secretary General Assistant Secretary General The New Jordan Party The New Jordan Party United Kingdom United States CC: His Excellency Stephen Beecroft-American Ambassador to Amman-Jordan |
